Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock has been asked to return her Razzie award, which she was presented with in March for All About Steve. Organisers of the Golden Raspberry Awards said she accidentally took home the valuable prototype instead of the cheap replicas given to winners.

Razzie co-founder John Wilson said: "We have privately offered to replace that statuette with the replica. "

Bullock's spokeswoman told US website E! that it would be returned.

'Seriously mis-reported'

Mr Wilson has insisted that this is the first time he has publicly spoken about Bullock's Razzie mix-up and accused other media outlets of distorting the truth.

"This whole thing has been blown way out of proportion, and seriously mis-reported, by the media," he said.

"This process was never meant to be conducted in the public eye, and the current media frenzy has resulted largely from an article in a British tabloid that concocted quotes they claimed were from me, when I had never actually spoken with them.

"While the way in which the media have presented the matter does make us look awful, it hasn't exactly been accurate. "

A day after winning the prize, Bullock scooped the Oscar for best actress.

It was her first Academy Award and was presented for her role in The Blind Side.

This year Bullock turned up to the Razzies with a trailer filled with DVDs of All About Steve to give to the audience.
