23rd June 2010

Lancashire pulled off a timely first win in five matches to keep alive their faltering hopes of a place in the last eight of the Friends Provident t20. Saj Mahmood and Simon Kerrigan each took two wickets at Old Trafford as Warwickshire were limited to 126-6, Jim Troughton finishing unbeaten on 42.

Tom Smith then top scored with 51 as Lancashire made 127-5 to win by five wickets with just one ball to spare.

Imran Tahir took 3-17 with his leg spin, but Lancashire got home safely.

Despite Smith's fifth score of over 40 in seven matches, Lancashire still needed 12 from seven balls when Gareth Cross, on his 26th birthday, strode to the wicket with the score 115-5.

Earlier, only Troughton had any significant impact with the bat for the Bears, his 42 coming off 34 balls.
