Wilmslow, Cheshire

Wilmslow, in Cheshire, is located approximately 20km south of Manchester, between Alderley Edge and Handforth.

Wilmslow is famous for the discovery of Lindow Man, a naturally-preserved bog body. Having been preserved in the peat bogs for approximately 2000 years and discovered in 1984, Lindow Man is considered to be one of the most important Iron Age finds in the country, although it has now been moved to a London museum.

Styal, near Wilmslow, is famous for Quarry Bank Mill, which was one of the largest contton spinning factories in the UK, as well as home to the most powerful working waterwheel in Europe. Calico cotton is still produced here and sold in the Mill Shop.
