Knutsford, Cheshire

Situated on the Cheshire Plain, Knutsford is a town within the Borough of Macclesfield, located south-west of Manchester. The area is renowned for its beautiful countryside and pretty villages. With a variety of restaurants and bars, Knutsford is a popular destination for eating out.

Knutsford is home to Tatton Park, which hosts The RHS Flower show each year. There are many other events which are also held in and around the town, including the May Day festivities and the Cheshire County Show in the village of Tabley.

Each year, May Day is celebrated in style, with hundreds of people parading through the streets for the Knutsford Royal May Day festival. ‘Sanding the streets’ is a May Day custom which is still observed today and involves the streets being decorated with coloured sands in patterns and pictures. There is also a funfair held each year to celebrate May Day and it’s said to be one of the largest funfairs in the UK.

The town appeared in Steven Spielberg's film Empire of the Sun and two episodes of Living TV's Most Haunted were filmed at Tatton Park in 2007.
