Haydock, Merseyside

Located approximately mid-way between Liverpool and Manchester, Haydock is close to the juction of the M6 motorway and A580 (East Lancashire Road). A village which forms part of the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens on Merseyside, it was once one of the UK's richest areas for coal and coal mining with up to 13 collieries working at one time.

In the early 1900s, Haydock had 3 railway stations, located between St Helens and Lowton. In 1923, Haydock Male voice choir was founded and has achieved great success, both as a recording and concert choir.

Recently, Haydock has become famous for its racecourse, Haydock Park. This has become one of the North West's premier dual-purpose racecourses, offering both flat and jumping fixtures and is popular with all race-goers, from serious supporters to those looking for a fun day out.
